Our OST (Out-of-School Time) group consists of students from a small rural town in Newaygo County, Michigan. Many of our students come from under-resourced backgrounds and have limited opportunities to travel outside the state. Recognizing this, our program is committed to bringing unique experiences to them—offering the next best thing to travel by connecting them with the wider world in creative ways. We are hoping that through the Peace Crane project, our students will unite to fold origami cranes as symbols of hope and peace. As they learn the importance of empathy, cultural understanding, and making a positive impact, even in their own community. We are hoping that each member brings unique talents and perspectives and finds that their voice is valued. Together, we strive to inspire kindness and build bridges across communities—one crane at a time.
